Over the past two decades, the Danish biotech and pharma industry has seen a significant growth and now contributes to more than 5 % of the total GDP in Denmark. Fermentation technology is the backbone of this production and there is a need for continuous development and upgrading of specialized expertise in this field. Therefore, DTU will establish a world-class Fermentation Based Biomanufacturing initiative to strengthen the MSc, PhD and life-long-learning (LLL) educational programs offered by the university. The initiative is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

The research and educational program in this initiative will be supported by three DTU hosted departments: Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB), DTU Bioengineering, and DTU Chemical Engineering, which in combination cover cell factory-based production from upstream to downstream development and from microscale to pilot scale.

Responsibilities and tasks
We are seeking a program manager to assist the steering committee in running and coordinating the daily management of the educational programs across the three DTU departments.

The program manager will

  • be overall responsible for coordination of all educational activities and for reporting to the funding body
  • assist the steering committee in arranging meetings, and be the anchor of correspondence with external collaborators
  • plan and run educational arrangements (workshops, seminars, conferences)
  • together with faculty staff coordinate the establishment and running of the MSc, LLL and PhD course portfolio within Fermentation Based Biomanufacturing
  • together with a PhD evaluation committee and PhD supervisors coordinate PhD project calls, project evaluation and hiring of PhDs
  • plan promotion activities related to the MSc, PhD and LLL-courses
  • be overall responsible for development of e-learning activities for LLL
  • coordinate activities in relation to the development of an educational fermentation infrastructure
All work tasks will be carried out in close collaboration with the steering committee and staff at DTU. The position will be part of the organizational unit called Teaching Core at DTU Bioengineering.

Our expectations of you
We are looking for a candidate with an MSc or PhD background in e.g. biologi, biotechnology, chemical engineering or a related area in natural science, and with a background in educational administration. Knowledge related to lifelong learning and e-learning tools will be an advantage, as will knowledge of the fermentation-based industry.

We expect candidates to be dedicated to facilitate development of excellent educational programs. You must be very well organized, structured and capable of interacting with many different people. In addition, a good sense of humor will be appreciated. Reading and understanding Danish is not required but an advantage.

Qualifications
Candidates should have an MSc (or PhD) degree in natural science and experience with organisational work related to educations.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is at least 5 years.
