Inaugural lecture - John McCafferty

John McCafferty has been appointed Affiliated Professor at DTU Bioengineering. This is celebrated with an inaugural lecture by John McCafferty on:

Therapeutic antibodies: Past, present and future

The lecture is followed by a reception. Registration is not necessary.

Abstract:

In 1990 there was a single approved therapeutic antibody of murine origin. Today there are ver 80 approved human antibodies with many hundreds more undergoing clinical development. This change has been driven by a number of technological advances including phage display which helped unleash a revolution in human antibody discovery. The underlying concept of linking genotype and binding phenotype has been extended to other systems including ribosome display, yeast display and mammalian display. Liberated from the need for immunisation these powerful technologies have also allowed the development of various alternative non-antibody scaffolds. This presentation will review this history of antibody discovery and reflect on current and future developments.
