Strain Collections

We have two main strain collections; "The IBT Culture Collection of Fungi" with 38,400 isolates/strains and the "Galathea Bacteria Collection" with several hundred marine bacterial isolates/strains.

Galathea Bacteria Collection

The Galathea strain collection at DTU Bioengineering was founded in 2007 and includes several hundred marine bacterial isolates/strains.

The biodiversity covered by the collection mainly falls within the Proteobacteria and the three largest groups are strains belonging to VibrionaceaePseudoalteromonas and the Roseobacter group (Gram et al. 2010).

The IBT Culture Collection of Fungi

The internationally recognized IBT strain collection at DTU Bioengineering was founded in 1988 and includes more than 38,400 fungal isolates/strains.

The biodiversity covered by the collection mainly falls within the ascomycetous filamentous fungi and yeasts, supplemented with few basidiomycetes and mucoromycetes.
