One 2-year postdoc position in antibody discovery is available starting August 1st 2020 or shortly thereafter. The project will be supervised by Associate Professor Andreas H. Laustsen. The successful candidate will join a young and ambitious, international research team, which is a part of the Protein Science & Biotherapeutics section at DTU Bioengineering.

Research in the Tropical Pharmacology Lab is focused on the use of phage display technology for antibody discovery, as well as toxinology and biotherapeutics. This includes design and development of novel antivenoms against animal envenomings. For more information, please contact Andreas H. Laustsen.

Responsibilities and tasks

The postdoc project will explore different ways of employing phage display technology for the discovery of antibodies with special binding properties against snake toxins with the purpose of creating recombinant antivenoms. We are searching for a postdoctoral researcher with the following qualifications and experience:

Essential criteria
  • PhD degree within Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or related fields,
  • Strong background in Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering, and Toxinology,
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated lab experience with antibody discovery techniques including phage display technology,
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience working with different recombinant antibody formats (i.e. scFv, nanobodies, IgGs etc.)
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience in molecular biology tools, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, and ELISA
  • At least 2 years of experience with molecular cloning in E. coli
  • At least 2 years of experience with protein engineering tools such as recombinant protein expression and purification using different chromatography methods including
    • HPLC
    • SEC
    • Ni-NTA
  • Experience with mammalian cell cultures for toxicity assays
  • Strong track record within scientific publishing, including both research articles and reviews

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience in developing antivenoms against animal toxins
  • Experience working with industrial partners
  • Experience with SPR, nano-DSF, CD spectroscopy, and ITC
  • Documented international experience (spending minimum 3 years abroad from his/her home country during his/her studies)
  • Broad knowledge of the field of toxinology (i.e. demonstrated via published reviews)

The successful candidate should thrive in a highly ambitious research group that aims to establish new research fields. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, eager to seek and share knowledge, able to work independently in a dynamic group environment, and should be confident in planning and carrying out complicated tasks. Good communication skills in both written and spoken English are expected.

Candidates that do not fulfill these strict requirements are not eligible and will thus not be selected.
