Biofertilizers aim to make global food production both sustainable and affordable

A new international research initiative aims to lessen our dependence on artificial fertilizers while promoting biotechnology industries in the Global South. Initiative for Biofertilizer Innovation and Science (IBIS), is funded by a total of DKK 215 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Gates Foundation.

Through large-scale experiments, IBIS aims to gain a deep understanding of how microorganisms behave under different conditions. All data will be freely available. Photo: Rasmus J. N. Frandsen.
