Damian Plichta, Head of Data Science at Novonesis and Visiting Scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, joins DTU Bioengineering as Adjunct Professor, bringing extensive experience from both industry and international academia. The appointment supports the department’s strategic focus on high-throughput automation, data science, and AI-driven innovation.
“I am delighted that Damian Plichta will join DTU Bioengineering as an Adjunct Professor. Damian brings an exceptional background in data science from both academia and industry, and I look very much forward to collaborating with him on further strengthening and advancing the data science and AI profile of DTU Bioengineering,” says Bjarke Bak Christensen, Head of DTU Bioengineering.
On his appointment, Damian Plichta says: “I’m honoured to join DTU Bioengineering as an Adjunct Professor. As we strive to decode the immense complexity of the human microbiome to advance our ingredient portfolios in Novonesis, the synergy between data and biology becomes critical. I look forward to collaborating with the department to drive data-led innovation that turns complex biological problems into actionable insights and promotes translation, and to engage with the students and faculty”.
“Damian’s appointment builds on a partnership that is already generating real scientific momentum between Novonesis and DTU. Understanding biology’s complexity takes close collaboration between academia and industry, and this connection helps us share the latest advances in data science, automation, and microbiome research quickly across both teams. With DTU’s leadership in biological engineering and our strength in turning science into practical innovations for human health, we are creating a strong environment - one that grows talent, speeds up discovery, and helps bring better solutions to people around the world.” - Adam Baker, Science Director, Strategic External Partnerships.
